Initiatives

We believe in driving positive change beyond our business. Our initiatives focus on environmental stewardship, employee well-being, and community engagement—building a sustainable future for all.

Energy Conservation

The Company has given high priority to energy conservation measures and effective control on utilisation of energy.
Over the years we have taken measures such as:

  • Replaced several old conventional lights and bulbs with energy efficient LED lights.
  • Replaced traditional motors with energy efficient motors and also installed VFD at various equipment to increase energy efficiency and reduce emission.
  • Maintaining unity power factor.
  • Installed energy efficient pumps in cooling, chilling and brine applications.
  • Replacement of reciprocating chillers with energy efficient screw chillers.
  • Reduced power consumption by installing Auto On/OFF switch with temperature controller for cooling tower.

Water Conservation

Purogene Labs has adopted several targeted strategies to reduce consumption, manage wastewater responsibly, and promote sustainable usage:

  • Water Recycling and Reuse: Implemented systems to treat and recycle process water, cooling tower blowdown, and wastewater for reuse in non-critical operations.
  • Advanced Wastewater Treatment: Using technologies like membrane filtration, biological treatment, and UV disinfection to ensure water discharged meets environmental norms.
  • Optimizing Water-intensive Processes: Redesigning manufacturing processes to minimize water input without compromising product quality.

  • Rainwater Harvesting: Capturing rainfall to supplement plant water needs and reduce dependence on groundwater.
  • Leak Detection and Repair: Regular inspection and maintenance to prevent water losses from leaks in piping and equipment.
  • Cooling Tower Water Management: Using high-efficiency filtration, biocides, and minimizing blowdown to conserve water in cooling systems.
  • Awareness and Training: Educating employees on water-saving practices and embedding conservation goals in company culture.
  • Water Usage Monitoring: Deploying meters and analytics for tracking to identify and address inefficiencies.
  • Green Landscaping: Using drought-tolerant plants and efficient irrigation such as drip and sprinkler systems to reduce outdoor water use.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring strict adherence to all environmental regulations related to water use and discharge.

Waste Management

Purogene Labs complies with, but not be limited to, the following regulations:

  • The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
  • Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016
  • Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
  • Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981
  • Guidelines from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and respective State Pollution Control Board (SPCB)

Purogene Labs commits to the 4R Hierarchy:

  1. Reduce – Minimize waste generation through process optimization.
  2. Reuse – Reuse solvents, containers, and packaging where safe.
  3. Recycle – Segregate and send suitable waste to authorized recyclers.
  4. Recover/Dispose – Dispose of residual waste via authorized Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDF).
